Professor Koseki Takafumi from the University of Tokyo Visited Our College for Academic Exchange

From February 22 to March 1, Professor Koseki Takafumi from the University of Tokyo was invited to School of Urban Railway Transportation for a seven-day academic exchange visit. On the morning of February 24, Professor Koseki Takafumi delivered an academic lecture titled “Application of Automatic Train Operation in Urban/Suburban Public Transportation in Japan” in Conference Room 8A509 of the Modern Transportation Engineering Center. The lecture was chaired by Professor Wang Lei, Deputy Dean of School of Urban Railway Transportation.

At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Liu Zhigang, Dean of School of Urban Railway Transportation, warmly introduced Professor Koseki Takafumi and extended a heartfelt welcome on behalf of the college. He encouraged all faculty and students to listen attentively and engage in discussions with Professor Koseki Takafumi.

During the lecture, Professor Koseki Takafumi elaborated on the development trends of Automatic Train Operation (ATO), including international standards for ATO technology and the current status and trends of ATO development in Japan and globally. He highlighted the distinctions between rail transit trains and automobiles and provided a detailed introduction to Japan’s research achievements in ATO and Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technologies. Professor Koseki Takafumi’s extensive knowledge, unique approach to solving scientific problems, and engaging presentation style greatly inspired the attending faculty and students.

After the lecture, the participating faculty and students actively discussed relevant issues related to ATO with Professor Koseki Takafumi. The atmosphere was lively, with everyone attentively listening and learning from the lecture, further broadening their academic horizons.

    During his visit, Professor Koseki Takafumi also toured the relevant laboratories of School of Urban Railway Transportation to gain an in-depth understanding of the college’s teaching and research activities.

Professor Koseki Takafumi is a distinguished scholar at the University of Tokyo, with a broad research portfolio covering public transportation systems, analysis and control of traction systems, and more. Over the past five years, he has published over 20 papers, many of which have been cited by internationally renowned journals such as IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies. He has led eight research projects in areas including intelligent energy management for urban rail public transportation, enhancement of energy regeneration performance in electric trains, intermittent static wireless power transmission for electrified railways, and energy-efficient automatic operation for subways, making outstanding contributions to the field of rail transportation.

It is reported that during his visit, Professor Koseki Takafumi will deliver several insightful academic lectures and engage in in-depth discussions with leaders of relevant disciplines to explore opportunities for further collaboration.
